The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State is embroiled in controversy after the Wike-backed National Working Committee (NWC) reportedly dissolved the state executive. The announcement was made by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, on Friday.

“The National Caretaker Working Committee (NCWC) of the PDP hereby announces the dissolution of the Ogun State Executive Committee with immediate effect,” Mohammed stated, adding that a Caretaker Committee would soon be appointed to oversee the party’s affairs in the state.

However, the state chairman, Hon. Dr. Abayomi Tella, strongly rejected the dissolution, describing it as fiction and politically motivated.

“The news of the purported dissolution is a figment of some individuals’ imagination and lacks constitutional backing,” Tella said in a statement from Abeokuta. He emphasized that the current Ogun State PDP Executive, inaugurated on September 24, 2024, remains the legitimate organ of the party in Ogun State as recognized by the National Executive Committee (NEC).

Tella urged party members and supporters to ignore any attempts to sow discord, warning that any efforts to disrupt the party’s progress would be resisted by lawful means.

The development underscores ongoing tensions within the PDP at both national and state levels, reflecting factional struggles that have persisted since the party’s recent internal disputes.
