Gunmen kill trader, abduct pregnant wife

Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State – Tragedy struck in Kebbi State on Friday when suspected bandits stormed the home of a local businessman, killing him and abducting his heavily pregnant wife.

The victim, identified as Sufiyanu Garba, was attacked in the early hours at his residence in the Badariya area of Birnin Kebbi. Family sources said the assailants opened fire, killing Garba at close range before taking his wife, Zainab Mohammed Yauri, to an unknown location. The attackers reportedly fled immediately, leaving residents in shock.

A relative, Mohammed Yauri, confirmed the incident and urged security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the abducted woman. Garba was buried the same day in accordance with Islamic rites at the Birnin Kebbi central cemetery.

The Kebbi State Police Command has confirmed the attack, with spokesperson Bashir Usman stating that detectives were deployed to the scene and investigations had commenced.

This attack highlights growing insecurity in the North-West, coming just a day after bandits reportedly killed several people in separate incidents in Katsina State.
