Suspected political thugs on Thursday night attacked Ubima community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State, the hometown of former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, setting the office of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on fire.

Witnesses said the attackers stormed the community shooting sporadically before burning the party’s secretariat.

Residents reported that the assailants returned on Friday morning and mounted a roadblock along the Omuawa–Ubima Road, preventing vehicles carrying ADC banners from entering the community.

Amaechi, a prominent leader of the ADC, is expected to visit Ubima on Friday to register with the party at the ward level.

Security operatives were later deployed to the area, restoring calm and allowing normal activities to resume.
