The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday inaugurated its new Lagos State Executive Committee, with Dr. Amos Fawole as chairman, as party leaders declared readiness to reclaim power in 2027.

Speaking at the inauguration in Lagos, former deputy national chairman of the party party, Chief Olabode George, described the event as a demonstration of the PDP’s renewed strength and organisational capacity, insisting that the party remains the most viable national platform in Nigeria.

He said the PDP had undergone a “rebirth” since its national convention in Ibadan in November 2025, adding that the party was repositioned to provide credible leadership ahead of the next general elections.

“If APC thinks it can successfully repeat the same in 2027, Nigerians will shock them,” he said, alleging that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was plotting to manipulate the electoral process.

He maintained that the PDP was better organised than the APC, citing what he described as transparent ward, council, and state congresses culminating in the party’s national convention. He accused the ruling party of imposing its leaders and undermining internal democracy.

George also warned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against interfering in the internal affairs of opposition parties, stressing that PDP would resist any attempt to subvert democratic processes.

“In PDP, INEC cannot choose our leaders for us. Opposition parties will resist this irresponsible behaviour from the umpire,” he said.

The PDP leader alleged that recent elections were marred by irregularities, including incidents involving security operatives, and cautioned that a repeat in 2027 could trigger widespread resistance from voters.

Appealing to party faithful not to be discouraged by recent defections and internal challenges, George described the current phase as temporary. He referenced past remarks by former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, suggesting that the PDP’s internal crisis was less severe than challenges within the APC.

He reiterated that PDP remains a strong political force across the North, South, East, and West, and dismissed the possibility of any coalition being stronger than the party.

“Our party has weathered every storm and can never go under. PDP is coming back to take over its place as the ruling party in this country,” he said.

George assured Nigerians that a PDP victory in 2027 would restore the country’s standing in the comity of nations and address what he described as the “anti-people policies” of the current administration.

The inauguration of the Lagos State Executive Committee, he added, signals the beginning of intensified grassroots mobilisation as the party prepares for the 2027 elections.
