President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has removed Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun from office, according to a report by Sahara Reporters.

Egbetokun is to be succeeded by Tunji Disu, currently an Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos.

The report said senior police sources confirmed that Egbetokun had been directed to prepare his handover notes following a visit to the Presidential Villa. Disu is expected to assume leadership of the Nigeria Police Force thereafter.

Egbetokun’s tenure was marked by public debates over his continued stay in office beyond statutory retirement thresholds, as well as other controversies that attracted criticism from civil society groups and activists.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the Presidency or the Police Service Commission confirming the development.
