President Bola Tinubu has expressed sympathy with traders and residents of Kano following a devastating fire outbreak at the popular Singer Market over the weekend.

The fire, which began on Saturday evening, reportedly raged into Sunday morning, causing extensive damage to the food market and destroying goods worth millions of naira.

According to a State House press release issued on Sunday, the President had earlier contacted Abba Kabir Yusuf to obtain a situation report on the incident. He described the fire as tragic and deeply concerning.

President Tinubu was particularly alarmed that the latest outbreak occurred less than two weeks after a previous fire destroyed dozens of shops and property at the same market.

In response, the President directed a comprehensive investigation into the recurring fires at Singer Market, noting that such incidents often leave traders in despair and cause severe economic hardship.

The presidency assured affected traders of the Federal Government’s concern, while urging relevant authorities to determine the causes of the fires and implement preventive measures to forestall future occurrences.

The statement was signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, and dated February 15, 2026.
