The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned the killing of about 170 people in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State, describing the incident as evidence of a collapse of security under the Tinubu-led Federal Government.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the opposition party said the attack showed that the current security strategy was failing to contain violence and was instead allowing it to spread to previously safe areas.

The ADC questioned the effectiveness of security measures earlier announced by the Federal Government, including plans to recruit thousands of police officers, and demanded clarity on the status of the initiative.

According to the party, the Kwara killings reflect deeper structural problems in Nigeria’s internal security architecture, including poor intelligence gathering, weak border control, inadequate inter-agency coordination, and slow emergency response.

The party also linked the incident to a wider pattern of insecurity across the country, citing recurring cases of mass abductions and killings in several states.

The ADC called on the Federal Government to publicly account for its security operations, disclose the status of the promised police recruitment, and outline concrete steps to prevent further attacks.

It warned that continued inaction could further erode public confidence, stressing that governance must go beyond issuing condolences after violent incidents.
