Ademola Lookman enjoyed a dream debut for Atletico Madrid, scoring once and providing an assist in their emphatic 5–0 victory over Real Betis in Thursday’s Copa del Rey quarter-final clash.
The Nigerian forward, who only completed his move from Serie A side Atalanta earlier this week, was handed a starting role by coach Diego Simeone and wasted no time making an impact.
Lookman netted Atletico’s third goal in the 37th minute, collecting a pass on the counter-attack, beating two defenders in the box and finishing calmly past the goalkeeper. He later turned provider in the 67th minute, setting up Antoine Griezmann for the fourth goal.
David Hancko opened the scoring in the 12th minute, Giuliano Simeone doubled the lead after half an hour, while Thiago Almada wrapped up the rout with a late fifth goal.
