Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has dismissed claims that northern Nigeria may withdraw support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ganduje described such projections as a “big mistake,” insisting that the North remains firmly behind the President’s re-election bid.

The former Kano State governor spoke on Friday in Abuja while receiving a delegation of the Northern Nigeria Youth Leaders Forum, which named him its Grand Patron and pledged early support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition.

According to Ganduje, there is currently no southern candidate better suited to lead Nigeria beyond 2027 than President Tinubu, whom he described as a seasoned politician with deep roots in the country’s democratic struggle.

He said the President’s political upbringing, commitment to national unity, and past sacrifices for democracy distinguish him from other contenders.

Ganduje also noted that Tinubu’s economic reforms, though challenging, are beginning to yield results across the country, cutting across party and regional lines.

He recalled a pre-2023 political understanding that power would rotate to the South after eight years of northern leadership, arguing that the agreement should be respected through a second term for Tinubu.

Speaking on behalf of the youth forum, its National Leader, Murtala Muhammad Gamji, said the group’s support for the President is both political and financial.

He disclosed that the forum has begun mobilising resources to purchase Tinubu’s 2027 nomination forms, dismissing claims that the North would oppose the President’s re-election.
