Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has vowed to intensify the fight against kidnapping, cultism, and other criminal activities in the state, saying measures already put in place are yielding positive results.
The governor said his administration has made significant investments in modern security equipment, intelligence gathering, and inter-agency collaboration to confront criminal elements across Edo State.
Okpebholo spoke while reacting to a recent protest by residents of Ekpoma in Esan West Local Government Area over rising security concerns.
According to him, kidnapping is being addressed strategically, with security operations ongoing in various parts of the state. He stressed that security matters are sensitive and not suitable for public debate, noting that premature disclosure of details could compromise operations.
While reaffirming his respect for the constitutional right of citizens to protest, the governor warned against attempts by unscrupulous individuals or groups to exploit public sentiment to destabilise the peace and security of the state.
“This administration will not allow criminals or their sponsors to take Edo State hostage. Anyone involved in kidnapping, cultism, or any form of criminality will be tracked down and brought to justice. There will be no hiding place for perpetrators,” Okpebholo said.
He urged residents to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, assuring them of his administration’s determination to restore lasting peace and security across the state.
