Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, has paid a condolence visit to Dr. Maureen Chigbo, former President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP), following the brutal killing of her sister, Barrister Princess Nwamaka Mediatrix Chigbo.

Princess Nwamaka, a practicing lawyer, was reportedly murdered by “one-chance” armed robbers on January 6, 2026, while returning home in Abuja after attending evening Mass.

Obi disclosed details of the visit in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, noting that he visited Dr. Chigbo in Abuja on Saturday to commiserate with her over the tragic loss.

According to Obi, the late lawyer had returned to Abuja after the Christmas holidays to attend a court case. He described her abduction and killing as deeply painful and a grim reminder of the worsening insecurity in the country.

“The circumstances surrounding Princess Nwamaka’s death highlight the alarming level of insecurity in our country,” Obi wrote.

He called on the police to ensure that those responsible are swiftly apprehended and brought to justice, while also urging the government to treat the security of citizens as a top priority.

Obi stressed that safeguarding lives remains the primary responsibility of any government, adding that Nigeria must move beyond “politics and propaganda” to address the safety of its people.
