Latz, the personal trainer of British-Nigerian boxing star Anthony Joshua, and Sina, his strength and conditioning coach, have been identified as the two people who died in the fatal road accident involving the former world heavyweight champion on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Sina, a close friend and long-time member of Joshua’s team, was responsible for preparing the boxer for his recent fight with Jake Paul just two weeks ago, while Latz served as Joshua’s personal trainer and confidant.

The governments of Ogun and Lagos states confirmed the incident in a joint press statement issued on Monday, stating that the vehicle conveying Joshua and three other members of his team collided with a stationary truck, resulting in two fatalities.

The state governments expressed sympathy to the families of the deceased and offered prayers for strength as they mourn their loss.

According to the statement, Anthony Joshua and another passenger were immediately evacuated to a specialised medical facility in Lagos, where doctors conducted several clinical assessments. Medical officials confirmed that both patients are stable and do not require emergency medical intervention at this time. A comprehensive medical team has been assembled to continue monitoring them closely.

The statement added that Joshua has been conscious and has been relating well with members of his family since the incident.

The governments of Ogun and Lagos states said they are closely monitoring the situation and will ensure that the injured receive the best possible medical care. Investigations have also commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Members of the public were thanked for their concern, while a request was made for privacy for Anthony Joshua and his family during this period of grief.

The statement was jointly signed by Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser on Information to the Ogun State Governor, and Gbenga Omotoso, Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy.
