President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the Board of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), following the confirmation of its members by the Senate on December 16.
According to a statement issued by the State House on Thursday, the reconstituted board is chaired by Dr Mulisiu Olalekan Oseni, who previously served as Vice Chairman of the commission. Dr Oseni, a commissioner since January 2017, officially assumed office as Chairman on December 1, 2025. His tenure will run until the completion of his 10-year term, in line with the provisions of the Electricity Act, 2023.
Dr Yusuf Ali, first appointed as a commissioner in February 2022, has been designated Vice Chairman. His appointment took effect from December 1, 2025, and will last until the end of his first term.
Other members of the board include Mr Nathan Rogers Shatti and Mr Dafe Akpeneye, both serving second terms after their initial appointments in January 2017. Aisha Mahmud Kanti Bello is also returning for a second term, having first joined the commission in December 2020. Dr Chidi Ike, appointed in February 2022, is serving his first term on the board.
The board also includes Dr Fouad Animashaun, who is beginning his first term as commissioner from December 2025. An energy economist, Dr Animashaun brings extensive experience in the power sector and most recently served as Executive Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
President Tinubu has tasked the reconstituted board with deepening and consolidating the ongoing transformation of Nigeria’s power sector, in strict adherence to the letter and spirit of the Electricity Act, 2023.
