A senior police officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ogbon-Inu Taiwo Popoola, has died while in active service in Ebonyi State.
Popoola slumped at about 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday during a police management meeting at the office of the Commissioner of Police in Abakaliki, the state capital. He was until his death the Officer in Charge of the State Intelligence Department (SID).
Sources said the ACP suddenly developed breathing difficulties during the meeting and was immediately rushed to the Police Medical Centre at the state police headquarters.
Despite prompt medical attention, he was confirmed dead by doctors. Preliminary medical reports indicated that he died from cardiac arrest linked to hypertensive heart disease.
His remains have been deposited at the mortuary of the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital (AE-FUTHA 1), Abakaliki.
Confirming the incident on Thursday, the Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, Joshua Ukandu, said the officer was not known to be ill prior to the meeting.
Ukandu described the late ACP Popoola as a dedicated and professional officer, adding that the Commissioner of Police and the entire Ebonyi State Police Command have commiserated with his family.
