Former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that he commented on which region of Nigeria should produce the president in 2027.
In a statement published on his verified Facebook page on Monday, El-Rufai described the reports as false, stressing that he never made such remarks in any speech, interview, or social media post.
He clarified that his views should only be attributed to him when they are expressed through his official social media platforms or granted interviews with recognised media organisations. El-Rufai also cautioned against wrongly attributing opinion articles written by others to him simply because he shared them online.
According to him, the spread of such misinformation undermines meaningful national discourse and reflects the growing misuse of social media for political manipulation.
The former governor further criticised media outlets and editors who fail to verify information before publication, warning that such lapses contribute to the spread of falsehoods and public confusion.
El-Rufai urged Nigerians and the media to prioritise accuracy and verification, particularly as political conversations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
