Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has formally announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He made the declaration on Tuesday during a stakeholders’ meeting at Government House, Port Harcourt, where he appeared with his supporters.
Fubara explained that he visited President Bola Tinubu on Monday to brief him on recent political developments in Rivers State and to seek guidance. He said the move was made in the interest of the state and to avoid political “landmines.”
According to the governor, President Tinubu played a decisive role in ensuring he remained in office during past political turbulence. He added that his defection was a show of appreciation and a commitment to fully align with the President’s leadership.
“The truth is that without Mr. President, there would be no Siminalayi Fubara as governor today,” he said. “Our only way to thank him is to support him openly, not from the sidelines.”
Fubara stated that he and his supporters had received the “final signal” to leave the PDP and join the APC, noting that the formal processes of defection would now commence.
He assured stakeholders that Rivers people remained solidly behind his administration and would give strong support to the APC moving forward.
