The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has clarified reports surrounding the diversion of one of its C-130 aircraft during a routine ferry mission to Portugal on 8 December 2025. According to a statement issued by Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information, the aircraft made a precautionary landing in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, after the crew detected a technical concern shortly after takeoff from Lagos.

NAF explained that the crew acted in strict compliance with international aviation protocols by diverting to the nearest airfield to ensure the safety of personnel and equipment. The statement confirmed that all crew members are safe and have received cordial treatment from Burkinabe authorities.

The Air Force added that arrangements are underway to resume the scheduled mission once all safety checks are completed. It further reassured the public of its unwavering commitment to professionalism, operational discipline, and adherence to established safety standards.

“The Nigerian Air Force remains committed to safeguarding its personnel while fulfilling its constitutional mandate,” the statement read.

The clarification comes amid speculation over the aircraft’s diversion, with NAF emphasizing that the landing was purely precautionary and not the result of any diplomatic incident.
