At least seven women were reportedly killed in Adamawa State on Monday after soldiers escorting the 23 Brigade Commander opened fire on a group of protesters in Lamurde.
According to local sources, the incident occurred at Rigange Junction, where residents gathered to demand answers over what they described as the slow response of security forces to earlier attacks in the area.
A community leader said twelve women were hit, with seven confirmed dead and five receiving treatment at Numan General Hospital.
Witnesses said the protesters were expressing frustration over recurring violence in their communities and the delayed arrival of security personnel.
Efforts to obtain the Nigerian Army’s response were unsuccessful as calls and messages to the service spokesperson, Lt. Col. Apollonia Anele, were not returned at the time of filing this report. The Army has not issued an official statement on the incident.
