President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has mourned the death of Major General Abdullahi Mohammed Adangba (rtd.), former Chief of Staff to Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, describing him as a disciplined and patriotic statesman who left a lasting legacy in Nigeria’s security and governance systems.
General Mohammed, who passed away at the age of 86, played a pivotal role in shaping Nigeria’s modern intelligence framework. He was instrumental in the establishment of the National Security Organisation, the precursor to the State Security Service (SSS), the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), and the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA). He also served as the Military Governor of the defunct Benue-Plateau State from 1975 to 1976.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu praised the late general’s decades of service marked by loyalty, humility, and integrity. He noted that General Mohammed’s work in the State House set standards for efficiency and stability in presidential operations.
“He was a man of exemplary character, who combined the precision of a soldier with the prudence of a statesman. His years in the State House were marked by humility, efficiency, and unwavering commitment to the Nigerian project,” the President said.
President Tinubu extended condolences to the Mohammed family, the government and people of Kwara State, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and all who are grieving the loss of the respected elder statesman.
