Rap superstar Nicki Minaj has expressed gratitude to former U.S. President Donald Trump for drawing global attention to the persecution of Christians in Nigeria.

In a Truth Social post on Friday, Trump described Christianity in Nigeria as facing an “existential threat,” blaming radical Islamist groups for the killings of thousands of Christians. He said the United States “cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening,” adding that his administration stands “ready, willing, and able to save our great Christian population around the world.”

Minaj, who has often spoken about her Christian faith, said Trump’s message moved her deeply.
“Reading this made me feel a deep sense of gratitude,” she wrote. “We live in a country where we can freely worship God. No group should ever be persecuted for practicing their religion. We don’t have to share the same beliefs to respect each other.”

She added, “Numerous countries around the world are being affected by this horror. Thank you to the president and his team for taking this seriously. God bless every persecuted Christian. Let’s remember to lift them up in prayer.”

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz commended Minaj for “using [her] platform to speak out in defense of Christians being persecuted in Nigeria.”

According to Trump’s ambassador-designate for International Religious Freedom, Mark Walker, between 4,000 and 8,000 Christians are killed annually in Nigeria. He blamed groups such as the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Fulani militias for ongoing violence, urging the Nigerian government to act decisively.

Trump said he had directed members of the House Appropriations Committee to investigate the situation and announced plans to designate Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC) under the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998. The CPC designation applies to governments that tolerate or engage in “systematic, ongoing, and egregious violations of religious freedom.”

The House Appropriations Committee also described Nigeria as “the most dangerous nation on Earth to follow Christ,” pledging continued support for persecuted Christians once the U.S. government shutdown is resolved.
