The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for what it described as remarkable progress in road infrastructure across Nigeria.
The opposition coalition, known for its critical stance toward the government, said it arrived at its conclusion after an independent nationwide inspection of key road projects. Speaking in Abuja on Saturday, CUPP National Spokesperson, Comrade Mark Adebayo, said the coalition rated the Tinubu administration “very good” in the area of road development.
Adebayo, who was part of the inspection team, noted that the assessment was part of CUPP’s broader review of government performance ahead of the 2027 general elections. “We might have set out initially to puncture claims of achievements by the APC government, especially in infrastructure development, but the impression we got in this first phase of our inspection was very positive,” he said.
The coalition particularly praised the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, for what it called a “hands-on and energetic approach” to project delivery. According to the group, Umahi’s on-the-ground supervision and adoption of concrete and iron-based construction technology have significantly improved road quality and durability.
“From our assessment of various sectors, Umahi is inarguably the hardest working minister in the current administration. The many road construction and rehabilitation projects going on across the country are incredibly vast and ambitious in scope,” Adebayo stated.
CUPP members cited ongoing projects such as the Abuja–Kaduna–Zaria–Kano Expressway, the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway (Phase 1), Benin–Shagamu–Ore Road, Enugu–Onitsha Expressway, and the Abuja–Lokoja–Benin dual carriageway as evidence of the government’s commitment to infrastructure renewal.
They also commended Umahi’s recent humanitarian gesture to the people of Essan Community in Niger State following a tragic tanker explosion, describing it as “a demonstration of purposeful leadership.”
While urging consistency in the current pace of work, the CUPP advised that Nigerians should be allowed to freely assess and report on government projects as part of their civic responsibility.
“The Minister has demonstrated that a Works Minister’s job is on the field and not in air-conditioned offices. Seeing is believing, and from what we observed so far, the Tinubu administration has performed impressively in road infrastructure,” the coalition said.
