The Presidency on Tuesday released the full names and details of 80 persons granted revised terms of clemency, following a review of their conduct, rehabilitation, and readiness for post-release empowerment. The list primarily includes convicts of unlawful mining who have demonstrated remorse, good behavior, and commitments for reintegration into society.
The approved terms of imprisonment for the inmates have been adjusted from the original three-year sentences to two years, reflecting their positive progress in rehabilitation programs and the submission of letters of undertaking by relevant sponsors, including Senator Ikra Aliyu Bilbis.
The inmates are housed at the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Agodi, Oyo, and the Presidential Advisory Committee’s April 2025 directives guided the adjustments. The clemency measures aim to balance justice with social reintegration, offering the inmates opportunities for skill acquisition and entrepreneurial empowerment upon release.
The full list includes the names, ages, offences, sentence dates, term served, and approved revised terms of imprisonment for all 80 persons. Notable examples include Lawani Lurwanu (20), Yusuf Alhassan (33), Shehu Umar (28), and Isiaka Adamu (40).
The reversal of terms highlights the Federal Government’s focus on rehabilitation and structured reintegration programs for convicts, especially first-time offenders and young adults, promoting social stability and reducing recidivism.
