Aston Villa continued their impressive Premier League form with a 1–0 victory over Manchester City at Villa Park on Sunday.
Matty Cash scored the decisive goal in the 19th minute, firing a low shot into the bottom corner after a short corner routine involving Emiliano Buendia. The win marked Villa’s fourth consecutive league victory and Unai Emery’s third anniversary in charge.
It was also Villa’s third straight home win over Pep Guardiola’s side, who now trail leaders Arsenal by six points.
City created early chances but were thwarted by Villa’s disciplined defence. Erling Haaland missed a rare opportunity to equalise shortly after Cash’s opener, while Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden were both denied by resilient defending from Ezri Konsa and Pau Torres.
Villa threatened to extend their lead through John McGinn and substitute Jadon Sancho, but City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma produced key saves to keep his side in the contest.
City thought they had equalised in the 89th minute when Haaland slid the ball home, but the effort was ruled out for offside in the buildup.
The result maintains Villa’s winning streak and strengthens their top-four ambitions, while City face growing pressure after another setback in their title defence.
