Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The governor made the announcement on Wednesday at the Executive Council Chamber of the Bayelsa State Government House in Yenagoa.

The Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ngobere, and 18 PDP lawmakers also resigned from the opposition party alongside the governor.

Diri’s exit comes barely 24 hours after his Enugu State counterpart, Governor Peter Mbah, defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

As of press time, Governor Diri has not disclosed his next political move.

The PDP has now lost four governors to the APC this year, leaving the opposition party with eight governors nationwide.

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, confirmed the development in a post on his verified social media handle.
