The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has congratulated Mr. Danlami Nmodu on his election as President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP).

In a statement issued on Monday, October 13, 2025, by his Special Assistant (Media), Rabiu Ibrahim, the Minister described Mr. Nmodu’s emergence as a well-deserved recognition of his professionalism and long-standing commitment to journalism.

Mr. Nmodu, publisher of Newsdiary Online, was elected president in a keenly contested election held in Lagos. Idris noted that he had maintained a personal and professional relationship with Nmodu over the years, describing him as “a thorough journalist who has proved his mettle in journalism and is deserving of such commanding heights.”

The Minister also commended the immediate past President of GOCOP, Dr. Maureen Chigbo, publisher of RealNews Online, for her “vibrant leadership” and for “bequeathing a legacy of honour, dignity, credibility, and remarkable growth” to the Guild.

Idris urged the newly elected GOCOP leadership to promote unity and inclusiveness within the association. “As I congratulate Nmodu, it pleases me to urge him to run an inclusive leadership that guarantees the participation of all GOCOP members in sustaining the collective aspirations of the Guild,” he said.

The Minister further emphasized the need for the Guild to remain steadfast against the growing menace of fake news, misinformation, and disinformation, which he said threaten the credibility of the journalism profession.

He called on GOCOP to collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation in advancing media and information literacy nationwide.

“I am trusting Mr. Nmodu, who has built a distinguished career in journalism molded in integrity, accountability, courage, and resilience, to bring the same qualities to bear in partnering with government to uphold the values of media fidelity and literacy, especially in the fluid digital media space,” Idris added.
