Renowned activist and Secretary of the Joint Action Front (JAF), Comrade Abiodun Aremu, has died after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Ota, Ogun State.
The incident occurred around 6 p.m. on Sunday while Aremu was reportedly crossing the road near his residence. Witnesses said the unidentified driver fled the scene immediately after knocking him down.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where medical personnel battled to save his life, but he was later confirmed dead.
Aremu, a well-known pro-labour campaigner, was a key figure in Nigeria’s civil society movement and played a leading role in numerous struggles for social justice and workers’ rights.
Family sources said arrangements were being made for his burial on Monday morning.
