Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, Mr. Peter Obi, has dismissed reports and images circulating on social media claiming that he met with former U.S. President Donald Trump.
In a statement released on Wednesday via his X handle, Obi described the claims as “fake and devious,” insisting that the pictures in circulation were doctored.
“My attention has been drawn to some pictures currently circulating on social media, falsely portraying meetings I never had. One of such images purports to show me with U.S. President Donald Trump, alongside a fabricated claim that he praised me. Another seeks to depict me with MC Oluomo in his office,” Obi wrote.
He stated categorically that he had not met Trump or MC Oluomo, stressing that the fabrications highlight the dangers of fake news and disinformation in society.
Obi further noted that if he ever held such meetings, he would personally make them public on his official platforms. He emphasized that his politics is focused on addressing Nigeria’s real challenges—such as insecurity, education, healthcare, rule of law, and poverty—rather than chasing “cheap publicity.”
The former Anambra governor urged Nigerians and the international community to remain vigilant, verify information before sharing, and resist the culture of propaganda that undermines truth and integrity.
The statement was signed by his spokesman, Ibrahim Umar, on behalf of the Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR).
