The Presidency has described as “baseless and absurd” the claim by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu plans to remain in office for life.
In a statement on X, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said Tinubu remains committed to democratic principles and has no intention of exceeding the constitutional two-term limit.
“President Tinubu is a democrat who does not intend to stay in office beyond May 28, 2031, when re-elected in 2027,” Onanuga wrote, dismissing El-Rufai’s remarks as “political hallucination.”
He argued that the former governor’s comments were triggered by the massive reception Tinubu received in Kaduna during his recent visit, which contradicted claims of northern disaffection with the President.
Onanuga added that El-Rufai’s comments were a distraction from his political agenda, urging Kaduna Governor Uba Sani to intervene with his predecessor.
The Presidency stressed that Tinubu is focused on governance and will leave office at the end of his constitutional mandate.
