A political tremor is shaking the South West as former presidential aspirant, Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, launched a bold challenge to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration through his rapidly expanding movement, the Gbenga Hashim Solidarity Movement (GHSM).
At a massive gathering in Osogbo, Osun State capital, grassroots leaders from all 31 local government areas, party executives, community leaders, and an energetic youth base declared that Nigeria’s political future must shift away from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Kamaldeen Adebayo, Hashim’s message was uncompromising:
“This heartless government has bled the people enough. Gbenga Hashim’s mission is to restore dignity, justice, and accountability to governance. Nigeria’s democracy cannot breathe under corruption and mediocrity. It is time to take back our country.”🔷Cross section of the Members of Dr. Hashim Movement on Osun State on Saturday
National Coordinator of GHSM, Abdulrazaq Hamzat, described Hashim as a modern-day “Moses” poised to lead Nigerians out of hardship.
“Hunger has become a national policy, insecurity a daily horror, and hopelessness a state religion. But Gbenga Hashim is ready to lead the crusade out of this wilderness. He is free from corruption, full of ideas, and bold enough to crush APC’s state capture,” Hamzat declared.
Regional leaders echoed this sentiment. South West Coordinator, Alhaji Abass Olaniyi, criticized the Tinubu-led government for prioritizing a few privileged interests while citizens suffer.
“From Osun, this movement will spread like wildfire across the South West. The people are hungry for integrity, principle, and vision—and Gbenga Hashim is the answer,” Olaniyi said.
With the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) recently opening its 2027 presidential ticket, GHSM leaders believe Hashim now has a clear pathway to Aso Rock. Osun State Coordinator, Hon. Tajudeen Hassan, charged supporters to mobilize aggressively:
“Take the gospel of Gbenga Hashim to every street, every household, every corner of Osun. Nobody must be left behind. This is the people’s movement, and 2027 is our date with destiny.”
Political analysts note that the Osun rally marks the first coordinated grassroots revolt against Tinubu’s dominance in the South West, long considered APC’s stronghold. With inflation battering households, unemployment climbing, and insecurity spreading, observers warn that the movement could transform into a formidable electoral threat by 2027.
One speaker summed up the mood of the gathering:
“The downfall of Tinubu’s government begins in the South West. Osun has fired the first shot, and nothing can stop the storm that is coming.”
