The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that 4,445,505 Nigerians have completed online pre-registration in the first four weeks of the nationwide voter registration exercise, which began on August 18, 2025.
In a statement on Monday, INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, said women accounted for 51.83% (2,304,211) of the online pre-registrants, while men made up 48.17% (2,141,294).
Young people between the ages of 18 and 34 dominated the process, with 2,924,643 (65.79%) registrations, while students represented 1,112,344 (25.02%).
On completed registrations — combining both online pre-registration and physical in-person processes — INEC reported 509,929 as of September 12. Of this figure, 280,171 (54.94%) were female and 229,758 (45.06%) male. Youths aged 18–34 also led the numbers, making up 74.15% (378,132), while students accounted for 38.54% (196,529).
Mr. Olumekun added that detailed breakdowns by state, gender, age, occupation, and disability have been published on the Commission’s website.
Meanwhile, INEC announced that online pre-registration in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) closes today, September 15, 2025. Physical registration will continue for two weeks at designated centres before the exercise devolves to all 62 wards in the FCT from September 29 to October 8.
