A 26-year-old woman, Comfort Bob, has been remanded at Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison after allegedly assaulting Ibom Air crew members and damaging airline property at Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2.
Bob appeared before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court on a five-count charge, including disorderly conduct, assault, and malicious damage, offences under the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) bye-laws and Lagos State’s criminal laws.
Police said the incident occurred on August 10, 2025, after Bob refused to switch off her phone before takeoff from Uyo. Upon arrival in Lagos, she allegedly attacked the Purser, tore her wig, assaulted another crew member, and attempted to use a fire extinguisher as a weapon. She also allegedly damaged an aircraft divider curtain worth $2,500 and a wig valued at ₦110,000.
The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) has placed Bob on a lifetime “no fly” list, calling it one of the most severe cases of unruly passenger behaviour this year. The Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, condemned the release of indecent footage of the incident and ordered sanctions for the staff responsible.
Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi criticised what he described as “double standards” in the justice system, noting that other offenders in similar or worse cases had not faced equal punishment.
The case was adjourned to October 6, 2025.l
