Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that journalism would have been his career of choice if he hadn’t pursued music.

In a recent interview with Atlanta-based radio station 96.1 The Beat, which went viral on Thursday, Davido shared his deep interest in media, communication, and self-promotion—areas he’s naturally drawn to.

“I enjoy promo and conversations,” he said. “A lot of people don’t know I studied marketing along with business management. I love to talk and market myself. If I had a podcast, I could talk for three to four days straight,” he joked.

Davido highlighted the value of press engagement in shaping an artist’s public image, noting that while many high-profile artists shy away from the media, he embraces it.

“I think it’s a vital part of being an artist. Some big names avoid press, but I don’t mind because I enjoy talking. I love learning, asking questions, even researching things at home. If I weren’t in music, journalism would be it for me,” he said.

He also touched on his strong work ethic and consistent online presence, which he says is a major factor behind his massive social media following.

“People always ask why I have the most followers. It’s because I put in the work. A lot of people in my position would just relax, but I keep pushing. I know how hard someone like Beyoncé works, even with all her success,” he added.
