The Nigerian Presidency has responded to renewed media interest following a ruling last Tuesday by a judge in Washington D.C., which ordered the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to release documents linked to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a statement issued by presidential aide Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency downplayed the significance of the court order, stating that the reports in question have been in the public domain for over three decades.
“There is nothing new to be revealed,” the statement read. “The report by Agent Moss of the FBI and the DEA report have been in the public space for more than 30 years. The reports did not indict the Nigerian leader.”
Onanuga also confirmed that the President’s legal team is currently reviewing the U.S. court ruling.
The court’s decision has reignited interest in past U.S. investigations involving Tinubu, who has long denied any wrongdoing. The Presidency maintains that the documents do not implicate the President and urges the public to regard the matter as settled.
