Former Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere, MFR, has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of renowned Nigerian business magnate, economist, and philanthropist, Dr. Sir Pascal Gabriel Dozie, who died at the age of 85.
In a heartfelt condolence messageiepersonally signed and made available to ThePressman Newspaper and other media outlets, Prince Madumere described Dr. Dozie’s death as a monumental loss, not only to the people of Egbu in Owerri North, Owerri Zone, Imo State, but also to Nigeria and the global business community.
“Dr. Pascal Dozie was a man of extraordinary wisdom, humility, and visionary foresight,” Madumere stated.
“His contributions to the growth and transformation of Nigeria’s banking industry, telecommunications sector, and hospitality landscape are enduring and truly indelible.”
The former Deputy Governor extolled Dr. Dozie’s pivotal role in reshaping Nigeria’s economic framework, praising his entrepreneurial prowess and leadership in finance and digital innovation.
He described the late business icon as a trailblazer whose legacy will continue to inspire generations of leaders and entrepreneurs across Africa and beyond.
“Late Ndaa Pascal Dozie was not just a businessman; he was a global asset,” Prince Madumere remarked.
“His remarkable legacy will forever remain a reference point for excellence, vision, and service.”
Offering prayers for the peaceful repose of Dr. Dozie’s soul, Prince Madumere also extended his deepest sympathies to the bereaved family, praying that God grants them the strength and comfort to bear the irreparable loss.
Born in 1939 in Egbu, Owerri North LGA of Imo State, Dr. Pascal Gabriel Dozie, CON, was a towering figure in Nigeria’s corporate history.
He founded the now-defunct Diamond Bank—later merged with Access Bank—which once stood as one of the most respected financial institutions in Nigeria.
He also served as the pioneer Chairman of MTN Nigeria, playing a transformative role in revolutionizing the nation’s telecommunications sector.
A Harvard-trained economist and respected investor, Dr. Dozie held several top-tier positions across industries.
He was widely celebrated for his ethical leadership, strategic intellect, and unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s economic development.
His philanthropic efforts empowered countless youths, promoted education, and championed sustainable enterprise nationwide.
Reflecting on his personal relationship with the late icon, Prince Madumere recalled their professional engagements during his service as Chief of Staff to the then Imo State Governor and later as Deputy Governor.
He also remembered their familial bond and collaboration on developmental initiatives.
“Late Dozie’s courage and leadership were exemplary,” Prince Madumere remarked, visibly moved.
He further praised Dr. Dozie’s humility, noting that he chose simplicity over flamboyance, often declining honorific titles others would eagerly embrace.
“He was a kingmaker who quietly supported political candidates with his resources but never sought political power himself.
“A man of quiet influence within the Nigerian Stock Exchange and a mentor to many, he lived a life of substance, marked by grace and dignity.
“His life was a shining model of humility, excellence, and patriotism. The legacy of Ndaa Pascal Dozie will remain etched in the annals of Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
“He was an icon of ethical entrepreneurship, a pillar of corporate leadership, and a guiding light for aspiring professionals and business leaders.
