Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s Presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, has honoured the late Pa Edwin K. Clark, describing him as a man who had an unwavering passion for a new and greater Nigeria.

Obi acknowledged that Clark’s passing, coming closely after the death of Pa Ayo Adebanjo, is deeply sorrowful. However, he expressed comfort in the significant legacies both men left behind.

In a statement posted on his X handle on Tuesday, Obi said: “Still grieving the loss of our revered father and leader, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, I was devastated to learn of the death of another respected elder statesman and father figure, Chief Edwin Clark.

“On behalf of my family and the Obidient movement, I offer our heartfelt condolences to the Clark family and the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF).”

“Chief Clark was a towering figure in Nigeria’s socio-political sphere, remaining at the forefront of the fight for peace, justice, equity, and fairness across the nation. He was an ardent advocate for good governance and a true patriot, whose contributions to the nation were immeasurable.”

“I will forever cherish his support during my presidential campaign. His courageous endorsement of my journey epitomized his fervent desire for a New Nigeria—one built on peace, progress, productivity, equity, and fairness.”

“Chief Clark’s legacy will forever be remembered as a symbol of courage, truth, resilience, and patriotism. His passing is a great loss to our nation.”

“I extend my deepest condolences to the Ijaw Kingdom, the people and government of Delta State, and the entire nation. May God grant them—and all of us—the strength to bear this irreplaceable loss. May his soul rest in peace, and may his family continue to be blessed and protected.”
