Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed confidence in his decision to withdraw the appeal regarding the 2024 budget, asserting that he remains unfazed by the recent Supreme Court judgment.
Governor Fubara explained that the 2024 budget cycle concluded on December 31, 2024, making the appeal unnecessary.
In a statement issued on Monday by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Warisenibo Joe Johnson, Fubara stated, “The appeal serves no useful purpose. The only logical course of action was to withdraw it and have it dismissed.”
He added, “The Supreme Court is a busy institution. It would be unwise to burden the Court with academic appeals that lack practical significance. This is what some are celebrating.”
“There is no Supreme Court judgment against Governor Fubara. Ignore the outdated political propaganda being spread by desperate politicians,” Johnson continued.
The statement clarified that the Supreme Court merely acknowledged the governor’s voluntary withdrawal of the appeal, which became irrelevant after the full implementation of the 2024 budget.
Meanwhile, sources within the camp of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike declined to comment on the issue, citing its seriousness.
