The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has posthumously awarded Assistant Superintendent of the EFCC, ASE II Aminu Sahabi, for his bravery.

Olukoyede made the announcement during a condolence visit to Sahabi’s family in Sokoto on Friday, February 7, 2025. The late officer’s family resides in the Gawon Nama area of Sokoto metropolis.

Sahabi tragically lost his life on January 17, 2025, in Awka, Anambra State, while on an official mission to apprehend suspected internet fraudsters.

Olukoyede, who was accompanied by Ahmed Pate, EFCC Director of Finance and Accounts, Acting Director of the Sokoto Zonal Directorate, Nwanneka Nwokike, and other EFCC staff, expressed his deepest condolences, stating that the commission shared in the family’s sorrow.

“We mourn with you, and though we cannot question the timing of when the Lord calls us home, we remember Aminu as a courageous officer full of promise,” Olukoyede said. “Indeed, Allah gives, and Allah takes.”

The EFCC chairman further promised the family that Sahabi’s sacrifice would not be forgotten. “The individuals responsible for this heinous act will face the full consequences of the law,” Olukoyede assured, emphasizing that justice would prevail.

“There is no replacing the loss of a loved one, but may we find comfort in the knowledge that Allah’s will is beyond our understanding. Let us pray for his soul’s peace,” he added.

As part of the tribute, Olukoyede conferred a posthumous bravery award on the fallen officer and presented a condolence letter to the family on behalf of the EFCC and the Federal Government.

Olukoyede also assured the family that they would not be forgotten, promising to visit regularly. He revealed that the late officer’s benefits had been processed and would soon be released to his next of kin.

Justice Mohammed Shuaibu, who spoke on behalf of the bereaved family, expressed gratitude for the commission’s support and for bringing the officer’s remains back home for burial. He also thanked the EFCC for naming a building at the EFCC Academy in Abuja after Aminu Sahabi as a tribute to his sacrifice.

“I was in constant communication with the Chairman after the incident, and we appreciated the EFCC’s presence during our son’s burial,” Justice Shuaibu remarked. “The naming of the building at the EFCC Academy is a powerful gesture that immortalizes his contribution.”

Before concluding his visit, Olukoyede inspected a guard of honor at the EFCC’s Sokoto Zonal Directorate and met with commission officers, reinforcing the EFCC’s commitment to supporting its team and honoring those who give their lives in service.
