Police operatives have taken over the Rivers State People’s Democratic Party (PDP) secretariat following a shift in the party’s leadership. The move comes after a State High Court in Port Harcourt issued an interlocutory injunction, barring the current chairman, Aaron Chukwuemeka, and his executive from functioning in their roles.

In response, PDP members loyal to Governor Sir Siminialayi Fubara convened a swift congress on Wednesday, electing a caretaker committee to oversee the party’s activities. Hon. Nname Robinson Ewor, currently the Chairman of the Governing Council at Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic and the Rivers West Senatorial Vice Chairman, was appointed as the acting chairman. Ewor and the newly appointed executives are set to guide the party until official congresses are held.

The new leadership, determined to restore stability and leadership to the party, vowed to take control of the secretariat. However, on Thursday afternoon, heavy police presence was reported at the party’s office on the Aba-Port Harcourt expressway. Authorities deployed multiple vans to prevent access to the premises, citing concerns of potential clashes. The new leadership, unable to access the office, has since decided to meet with party members at an alternative location until they gain full control of the secretariat.
