Police operatives from the anti-cultism squad in Enugu Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, have raided a known black spot in Umunaga Village, Awka South, leading to the arrest of two individuals suspected to be members of a cult group.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, identified the suspects as Okechukwu Chinwuko, aged 27, from Umunaga Village, and Ezenwa Chinedu, aged 22, from Umuneri Village.
Incriminating items recovered from the suspects included one pump-action gun, four live cartridges, a cutlass, criminal charms, and substances suspected to be hard drugs.
Ikenga confirmed that the police also rescued two female victims who were allegedly sexually assaulted by the suspects. The suspects are currently undergoing interrogation.
In a separate operation, police operatives at the Igbo-Ukwu Divisional Police Headquarters recovered a white Peugeot J5 Boxer bus (Reg. No: AKL 896 XB), along with a vandalized Lister electricity generator, a roller, pipes, an iron bar, a screwdriver, a large metal cutter, and a pair of black canvas shoes. The suspects, described as economic saboteurs, were allegedly attempting to steal the Lister generator attached to the MTN Mast located opposite Saint Martin’s Catholic Church, Umudege, Igboukwu. Upon sighting the police, the criminals fled the scene.
Efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects. The police have urged local residents to provide useful information that could assist in capturing the criminals.
