The Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) is working to recover N4 trillion in outstanding debts, according to Managing Director Gbenga Alade, who spoke with reporters on Thursday.
Alade revealed that the company has successfully recovered N2 trillion, despite facing significant resistance from debtors who have been reluctant to settle their obligations.
He expressed concern that many of those owing the debts are high-profile Nigerians, including politicians, public officials, business leaders, and celebrities. Alade criticized these debtors for flaunting their wealth and living lavishly, while also noted their tendency to display their affluence by spraying money at social events.
He also acknowledged the support of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which has assisted AMCON in fulfilling its statutory duties.
