Ten people died in Jigawa State when a Toyota Hummer bus collided with a parked trailer along the Kano-Hadejia Road in Yanfari village, Taura Local Government Area.

The incident occurred on the evening of November 10th, around 9:30 p.m., according to a statement from the Jigawa State Police Command.

The bus, carrying eleven passengers and driven by 35-year-old Sani Mainasara of Hadejia LGA, was en route from Kano to Hadejia when it struck a stationary trailer with registration number RGN 180 ZC. The impact caused the bus to somersault, resulting in the death of the driver and nine passengers on the spot.

“Upon receiving the tragic news, our patrol team attached to Taura Division rushed to the scene. The corpses were immediately evacuated to Hadejia General Hospital, where they were declared dead by the medical doctor on duty,” the spokesman of the Jigawa State Police Command Lawan Adam said.

One passenger survived the crash and is currently receiving treatment at Majia Primary Health Care Centre.

“The survivor is responding to treatment,” Lawan added.

The police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident and establish any potential negligence.

“An investigation has begun, and anyone found guilty will face legal consequences,” the police spokesperson assured.

The Jigawa State Police Command has extended its condolences to the families of the deceased and urged road users to exercise caution to prevent further tragedies.
