Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the safety of all residents, stating that security remains his top priority.
Upon taking office, Kefas faced a state grappling with significant security challenges, including widespread gang violence and banditry. These criminals had gained a strong foothold, even launching brazen attacks in the state capital, Jalingo, where kidnappings were rampant.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Digital Communications, Emmanuel Bello, Governor Kefas assured that the state is now safer for both its residents and potential investors. He stressed that without security, there can be no meaningful development.
Governor Kefas acknowledged the magnitude of the task ahead when he assumed office, stating, “Securing the state was my primary concern and mandate. As a retired soldier from the intelligence corps, I knew my legacy would be judged by how well I handled security. I made a commitment to myself and my team to change the narrative.”
When he took office, the state was under siege, with bandits controlling strategic areas, including the hills. However, Kefas pointed out that a significant security operation has since cleared these areas, restoring peace.
The governor expressed gratitude for the support he has received from youth groups, community leaders, and security agencies, which has been crucial in improving the security situation in the state.
“Today, Taraba is safer,” he affirmed. “Our farmers can work without constant fear, and residents are moving about freely. Most importantly, investors are showing renewed interest in the state, and economic activity is booming.”
Governor Kefas emphasized that as the Chief Security Officer of the state, his duty is to protect lives and property, a responsibility he takes very seriously.
While acknowledging that there have been challenges, the governor highlighted the progress made, citing the increasing confidence from residents and investors alike. He also noted that one of his first actions in office was to strengthen relationships with national security agencies through a series of visits to military formations in Abuja, an effort that has yielded positive results.
In Taraba, the governor has worked closely with security agencies, providing significant support to enhance their operations and ensure continued success in safeguarding the state.
