An investigative panel established by Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo has confirmed that popular crossdresser Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, completed his jail term without sleeping outside of prison.
Bobrisky was sentenced to six months in prison on April 12 for naira abuse and was released in August. Controversial critic Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, shared a voice note in which Bobrisky allegedly claimed to have paid N15 million to officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to drop money laundering charges against him.
In the audio, Bobrisky suggested that a “godfather” and personnel from the Nigerian Correctional Service ensured he served his sentence in a private apartment instead of in jail.
On September 30, the minister formed a panel chaired by Permanent Secretary Magdalena Ajani to investigate alleged corruption and misconduct within the Nigerian Correctional Service.
During a report presentation on Monday, Uju Agomoh, a panel member and founder of Prisoners’ Rehabilitation and Welfare Action, stated that no evidence was found to support claims that Bobrisky spent time outside the prison during his incarceration from April 12 to August 5, 2024.
Agomoh noted that Bobrisky was transferred between the Kuje Custodial Centre, the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kirikiri-Apapa, and the Maximum Security Custodial Centre, where he completed his sentence.
