The Senate has called on Libya to apologize to the government over the mistreatment of the Super Eagles, Nigeria’s senior men’s football team, during their visit on Monday.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio condemned the incident, demanding an investigation and consequences for Libya’s actions. During a session, Senator Ismaila Kawu highlighted the unacceptable treatment the team received from Libyan authorities and the football federation, noting that it endangered the players and other members of the delegation.

Kawu urged the Federal Government to address the Libyan government about the potential diplomatic repercussions of their behavior.

Earlier, Akpabio, through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, criticized the actions of Libyan officials, stating that the incident underscores a troubling disregard for human dignity and international norms. He emphasized that the mistreatment of the players violates the principles of fair play and sportsmanship essential to international football.
