Former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello attended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday in response to their invitation.

Bello had previously been declared wanted by the EFCC over allegations of fraud and corrupt enrichment during his tenure.

According to a statement from his media team, his decision followed consultations with family, legal advisors, and political associates. The statement emphasized his respect for the rule of law and his commitment to due process, noting that he has consistently sought to enforce his fundamental rights throughout the proceedings.

The statement continued, highlighting that Bello has been represented by legal counsel at all court hearings and is now prepared to engage with the EFCC to clear his name, asserting that he has nothing to hide.

Bello expressed his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to promote sustainable economic development and combat corruption in Nigeria. It was noted that he was the first Kogi Governor to implement an anti-corruption framework aimed at ensuring state resources benefit the citizens.

He was accompanied to the EFCC Headquarters by notable figures. The statement concluded with a hope that the Commission would conduct its proceedings professionally while respecting his rights as a citizen, with further details about his meeting to be shared later.
