President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has instructed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide urgent aid to those affected by the severe flooding in Maiduguri, Borno State.

Described as the most devastating flood in recent decades, the disaster has displaced thousands and impacted essential facilities, including the Post Office and Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.

In a statement released on Tuesday by his special adviser on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu expressed deep concern over the flooding caused by the overflow of the Alau Dam. He extended his condolences to the Borno State government and its people, especially those who have lost their homes and livelihoods.

The President has called for the immediate evacuation of residents from the affected areas and assured Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of federal support to address the humanitarian crisis.

As authorities continue to assess the damage, President Tinubu pledged to mobilize federal resources to aid the state during this challenging period.

The statement concluded: “President Tinubu is committed to deploying federal resources to support the state and has ordered NEMA to assist the flood victims. The President remains dedicated to providing necessary aid and support during this difficult time.”
