Security forces in Anambra State have arrested a pastor accused of preparing charms for members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and other criminals operating in Uga, Ekwulobia, and nearby communities.
The police reported that the suspects were involved in car theft, kidnappings, and armed robbery across Aguata Local Government Area, including the towns of Umuchu, Nkpologwu, and Ezinifite.
The operation, which was a coordinated effort by the police, military, civil defense, and other security agencies, also led to the apprehension of two notorious members of the secessionist group.
In a statement released on Friday, August 23, state police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the suspects’ involvement in various criminal activities within the region.
Ikenga stated, “Among the two suspects, whose names have been withheld, one sustained a bullet wound to his leg, while the other, a fake pastor who was preparing criminal charms for the gang members, has confessed to the crime and is now assisting the police in apprehending other members of the gang.
“The suspects have also provided information on the location of the shrine where the charms were made and some of the stolen vehicles.
Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, assured the people of Anambra that the Command is diligently addressing all reported cases, particularly incidents of kidnapping and armed robbery, and that the trust placed in them to protect lives and property is not taken for granted.”
