Mohamed Salah has become the most prolific opening day goalscorer in Premier League history.
His goal in Liverpool’s first fixture of the 2024/25 campaign against Ipswich is his ninth strike in a season opener.
The Egyptian played a neat one-two with Dominik Szoboszlai before doubling the Reds’ lead with a simple finish after Diogo Jota’s opener.
Talk about hitting the ground running, there is something about the first match of the new campaign that seems to inspire the Egyptian King to greatness.
Salah already held the joint record for the most goals scored on the opening matchday of the Premier League, alongside Alan Shearer, Frank Lampard and Wayne Rooney.
All three former England stars have scored eight total goals on the first day of the season.
But Salah has now overtaken them to lead the pack out on his own.
The goal also brings Salah level with Rooney when it comes to another MD1 record.
Prior to this game, Rooney held the record for the most goal involvements on the opening days, having also collected five assists, and bringing his tally to 13 goals involvements.

But Salah’s goal against Ipswich means his total goal involvements on the opening day now also stands at 13 – nine goals and four assists.
Since signing for Liverpool back in 2017, there has only been one season in which Salah has not scored on the opening day of the season.
That was in the 2023/24 season opener, a game which saw the Reds draw 1-1 against Chelsea.

But Liverpool have never lost an opening game since the Egyptian signed for the club, with the forward proving just how much of a lucky – and skilled – talisman he is.
Perhaps his most impressive opening day performance though came in 2020 when Liverpool overcame Leeds in a seven-goal thriller.
Leeds had just returned to the top-tier after a 16-year-absence and it was only a hat-trick from Salah that stopped them from also claiming a victory against the Premier League defending champions.
