The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the detention of one of its officers for the alleged rape of a 17-year-old girl at the Area H Command in the Ogudu area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, denied allegations that the police authority was shielding the suspected rapist, adding that while the suspect initially absconded after the incident, he eventually turned himself in for investigation.
Reassuring the public that the incident would be handled transparently, he disclosed that Lagos police chief, Adegoke Fayoade, has instructed the Gender Unit of the command to look into the case promptly.

“The case is under full investigation. There is no plan to cover up the allegation,” he said.
The incident came to light after the victim approached the suspect for assistance in recovering her stolen phone. However, the situation took a traumatic turn when the officer, instead of helping her, reportedly assaulted her.
