At least 20 people have been killed after Russia launched a large-scale missile attack on cities across Ukraine, according to officials.
In the capital, Kyiv, at least seven people died in an uncommon daytime assault. The city’s mayor reported that a children’s hospital was hit by the missile strike and was being evacuated.
The head of the military administration in Kryvy Rih, a central Ukrainian city, stated that at least 10 people were killed there, with three more fatalities in the eastern town of Pokrovsk.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who is currently visiting Poland, said that Russia had fired approximately 40 missiles at various targets across the country.
Zelensky, who is set to travel to the US for this week’s NATO summit in Washington, remarked that Russia had “massively attacked” Ukraine.
“Different cities: Kyiv, Dnipro, Kryvy Rih, Sloviansk, Kramatorsk. More than 40 missiles of various types. Residential buildings, infrastructure, and a children’s hospital were damaged,” he said.
Plumes of smoke were visible across the capital, Kyiv, while videos posted on social media showed the destruction both inside and outside the Okhmadyt children’s hospital. It is unclear if anyone inside was injured.
